The following images are from months of being patient and putting my life in danger as a momma hummingbird made sure I didn’t get too close to her little one. It all started when we had a garage sale and noticed a hummingbird flying around the front porch. Then I happened to look up and saw a nest being built. I couldn’t believe she set up shop so close to my front door. Once the nest was complete, shortly after, two eggs appeared. Around 21 days later, the egg hatched (only one) and the nursing stage was another couple of weeks. After a week or so, I noticed the momma bird wasn’t coming around as often and I was beginning to wonder if the chick was going hungry. But, I read online that after a certain amount of time, the mom comes back to feed the chick a few times a day. I also couldn’t believe how fast these birds grow. One moment there was a tiny chick and the next, the little one was ready to explore the world. This was a cool project that landed on my front door step…
